Nov 05 Arrival – New Delhi
Arrival in New Delhi via international flight. Meet-and-greet assistance by our Spanish-speaking representative. Transfer to the hotel. Overnight stay.
Nov 06 New Delhi
Breakfast at the hotel. Departure for Old Delhi; we will take an orientation tour of the area, passing by the Red Fort and Chandni Chowk street, and stop to visit the Gandhi Memorial, Raj Ghat. This beautiful park houses a cenotaph—a black marble platform—marking the spot where Mahatma Gandhi was cremated following his assassination. Pandit Nehru and Indira Gandhi were also cremated there. We will continue the tour by exploring New Delhi, including government buildings and India Gate—a 42-meter-high stone triumphal arch bearing the names of the 90,000 Indian Army soldiers who died during World War I. We will also enjoy a panoramic view of the Parliament area and the President’s residence.
Later, we will visit a Sikh temple: Gurdwara Bangla Sahib. Located in the Connaught Place area, it is the most important Sikh temple in Delhi. Thousands of people of all faiths visit this temple daily.
Finally, we will see the Qutub Minar, one of the oldest monuments of the first city of Delhi; its construction began in 1199. The complex is characterized by a blend of Hindu styles and Islamic elements. Its minaret is the tallest in the world, reaching a height of 72.5 meters and consisting of five tiers of decreasing diameter. At the base of the minaret stands the Alai Darwaza Gate, constructed of red and yellow brick, which once served as the entrance to the mosque. The tomb of Sultan Iltutmish and the mausoleum of Imam Zamin are also located here. Return to the hotel and overnight stay.
Nov 7: Delhi – Jaipur (255 km, 5 hours)
Breakfast at the hotel. Departure by road to Jaipur; upon arrival, transfer to the hotel. Jaipur is known as the “Pink City,” a nickname derived from the color of the sandstone used to construct the buildings in the Old City. The city’s pleasing layout is credited to Maharaja Jai Singh II, who began construction in 1728 and directed his architect, Vidyadhar Chakravarty, to skillfully blend diverse styles—including Hindu, Jain, Mughal, and Persian. In the afternoon, we will visit the Hindu Birla Temple. Overnight stay.
Nov 8: Jaipur – Amber – Jaipur
Breakfast at the hotel. Excursion to Amber Fort; the ascent will be made on elephant back (subject to availability), and the descent by jeep. The fort was built by the Mughal kings to defend the citadel. The complex consists of a group of buildings, including a palace and a secondary fortress situated at a higher elevation.
Diwali celebration with dinner; this is India’s largest and most important festival—a festival of lights celebrating the triumph of light over darkness, good over evil, and the human capacity to overcome adversity. Diwali has become a national Indian festival. Return to the hotel and overnight stay.
Nov 9: Jaipur
Breakfast at the hotel. Visit to the Maharaja’s Palace, the residence of the Jaipur royal family. The complex is filled with palaces, gardens, and other buildings—most notably the Chandra Mahal, a seven-story structure housing the Maharaja Sawai Man Singh II Museum, where visitors can view carpets, enameled objects, weapons, miniature paintings, cannons, and the maharajas’ attire. Afterward, we will visit Jantar Mantar, the astronomical observatory, featuring a 30-meter-high sundial and other fascinating astronomical instruments. This is one of five existing observatories. Nearby stands the famous Palace of the Winds, or Hawa Mahal (a facade with a palace-like structure), which was used by women to watch processions and street life. Return to the hotel and overnight stay.
Nov. 10 Jaipur – Agra (240 km – 5 hrs).
Breakfast at the hotel. Departure for Agra; upon arrival, transfer to the hotel. In the afternoon, we will visit the Red Fort of Agra, a UNESCO World Heritage Site since 1983. Construction began in 1565; the complex was designed as a walled palace surrounded by a deep water moat. The fortress—accessed via the imposing Amar Singh Gate—houses numerous palaces and grand buildings constructed by the Mughal Emperor Akbar, which served as a seat of Mughal power for successive rulers of the empire. Overnight stay.
Nov. 11 Agra – Delhi (200 km, 4 hrs).
Breakfast at the hotel. Today you will visit one of the Seven Wonders of the World: the Taj Mahal (closed every Friday of the year), the monument that brought world fame to Agra and has become the symbol of India. The Taj Mahal is a mausoleum commissioned by Emperor Shah Jahan in 1631 in honor of his beloved wife, Mumtaz Mahal—the “Lady of the Taj”—who passed away while giving birth to their fourteenth child in 1629. Construction, which involved 20,000 people, was not completed until 1653. It stands as the finest example of Mughal architecture. The chief architect, Isa Khan, designed the complex within a 508-by-304-meter rectangle, featuring a central garden flanked on all four sides by octagonal pavilions. The mausoleum, built entirely of white marble, rises from a marble plinth; a white minaret stands at each of the four corners, reaching a height of 41 meters. The central structure features four smaller domes surrounding a larger central dome. The remains of the couple rest in the crypt of this two-story building. While the architectural complex is impressive in itself, the *pietra dura* decoration—featuring intricate details such as floral arabesques and geometric motifs in semi-relief, inlaid with precious stones—is truly remarkable.
